Lucas Zarro

Lucas is a saxophonist, multi-instrumentalist and producer based in Naarm. Lucas began his musical journey in primary school, picking up saxophone on a whim, choosing the most esoteric option offered by his school's music program and cutting his teeth playing in the Moreland City Jazz Ensemble, a big band style community Jazz band based in Brunswick

Lucas has been committed to bringing his jazz sensibilities into each musical endeavour undertaken since, beginning with his electronic works, merging acoustic guitar and sax recordings with atmospheric breaks and techno to create a swampy, bass heavy collection of tracks that cause listeners to begin floating away on the dance floor.

Lucas brought his predilection for spaced out atmospheres and textural elements to a live band setting in early 2025, with his Jazz Fusion band, playing sax through electronic effects and blending jazzy dance inspired beats with dubbed out horn and guitar lines for a special live experience.

Lucas's most recent work is on his album PALING, a free jazz duet piece, a conversation between his saxophone and the piano musings of his long time friend Callum Christensen. PALING is a return to form for Lucas, a group of songs recorded as naturally and expressively as possible in a DIY setting, flexing his clean production aesthetic alongside phenomenally captured performances for an incredibly intimate listening experience.

Lucas has done paid Live sound engineering work for the popular Fitzroy venue The Worker's Club on multiple occasions as well as for the artist and musician collective FEARMONGER.
